The ROS1 gene encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase, whose endogenous substrate and normal physiological functions are not fully determined, however there is evidence that neural epidermal growth factor-like like 2 (NELL2; Q99435) is an agonist for ROS1. Aberrant expression and mutated forms of ROS1 are drivers of malignant transformation in number of tumour types.
